“After years of fumbling and various more-or-less successful attempts at enhancing the choice and standard of services in our city, today we can say that gastronomy in Košice has begun to shape its own image and has been heading in the right direction. Even if the steps are still uncertain and awkward, as often happens when creating new ideas and approaches, the Košice inhabitants cannot be rebuked for one thing – the fact that the city has an increasing number of attractive places where to drink a wellprepared espresso or cappuccino with whipped-cream-like milk foam, where to have your favourite cocktail mixed, eat lunch prepared by an inventive chef from fi rst-rate, fresh and seasonal ingredients, or experience the unrepeatable atmosphere of a gourmet dinner. An increasing number of restaurants seem to understand that they have to fi ght for their guests and so they compete in spoiling and pampering them. This is good because life is too short to eat bad food or be limited in discovering new tastes due to the dull imagination or experience of the cook.
As many restaurant owners share the same view and care about the positive image of their city, just as every other Košice native, this gave the incentive for cooperation, quite unique in Slovakia, with the common aim of turning Košice into a bastion of top-quality gastronomy of European signifi cance. We all believe that in order to fulfil this diffi cult objective, we have to join forces to make the quality of our services yet another gem of Košice which will make visitors want to return again.
I would therefore like to extend a heartfelt invitation to the annual culmination of our efforts and the greatest celebration of food under the open sky – Košice Gourman Fest. Together with thousands of people from Košice, you can look forward not only to new tastes, but also future exciting guests such as Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsay… If June is too far away for you, don’t hesitate to enter our restaurants, where you are welcome and awaited all year round.
